Apparently, the beta OS 4.5.0.66 for the 8330 is compatible with the 8130 and are one in the same!! So, if you got the .66 for the 8330 while it was up, you can use it for the 8130!! Have fun and enjoy!!!!

link is dead. anyone got a working linky? email is codysbb at gmail dot com or pm is fine if dont want to post.
damn as many people who most likely downloaded this, you would think a new link would be up by now. please get one up asap, rapidshare hosts tons of crap so this should be ok hosted there too. thanks for the find, hopefully i'll be able to grab a copy soon.
I dont like 4.6 DM because it is unpredictible. I have used 4.5DM since it was released accidently by RIM and havent had a single problem. I HIGHLY suggest using DM 4.5
Does anyone know if this works for the Sprint 8130? I installed the update and then ran the desktop manager and then the update on that. It didn't recognize there was an update for 4.5. It just saw the previous update I did for 4.3.

you have to delete the vendor.xml file
go to C:>Program Files>Common Files>Research In Motion>AppLoader and it should be there.
and yes it works for sprint 8130, that's what i have :)

Yes it does work for all 8130's regardless of your carrier, like ferfious said, you must remove the vendor.xml file to upgrade the OS. Go to the Program files>common files.research in motion>apploader and you can find it there. Just click on it and select send to recycle bin. Let me know if this doesnt work.
I've tried to download 4.5 for my 8130, and for some reason, I don't get anything from the link. I just get an hourgla** and it doesn't load the download. Any advice?
Working great so far. Installed with DM4.6 with no problems. I'm waiting to see if the memory leak settles down. It usually takes a few days after a new OS install. I'm debating on whether to use BB email instead of the Gmail app so I can have HTML email.
Does the 4.5.0.69 version (posted in 8100 group) work for the Verizon 8130 model? Or should I continue with the 4.5.0.66 version?
Thanks!
ALL OS's are device specific, so you can not use the 8100 OS for the 8130 unless you want to brick your device.
Yeah, I realized that after I posted and then forgot to come back and edit my post. Thanks for the reply.
On another note, through Verizon the GPS function is locked to their VZ Navigator program. There were rumors that a new OS would eventually unlock it, does anyone know if this is true or not? I'd really like to get rid of the keychain one I use now and just use the built-in one.
I know the OS here isn't vendor specific, so I doubt its unlocked, but just wondering if anyone else has heard news about it.
you said it yourself. the os is not vendor specific. I have a verizon 8130 and the gps is NOT unlocked.... I guess us verizon users will just have to wait till a verizon releases a verizon specific update. Tho i doubt that verizon will ever unlock this feature to protect its propritary software just as they have with everything else. one every other device. if they could ethicly lock bluetooth i bet they would to only support verizon BT devices. lol!
i just use google maps. it is nowhere precise but I realy dont need / care for turn by turn directions. I use it for the direction list and as well as local serches. the built in my location works well enough for me.
Yeah, luckily our BBs are provided for us through work and they supply VZ Navigator. Although I prefer Google Maps to it for most things... and just wish the GPS worked. I had an older AT&T Blackberry before work setup a whole BES for our department... now we all have VZW phones supplied.
Well if you have VZ Nav activated you can run it in the background (don't need to actually get the directions, just open it) then also open google maps for your navigation. worked well for me when i had used it.
I tried 4.5.0.66 but had some issues so I fell back to 4.3. Did anybody have these issues?
* when in music player, txt msg stops player....u hafta manually go to "now playing" to go back to listening to the current song. * when in music player, when receiving a phone call, after phone call is finished, it operates as above. * when using headphone jack into aux port on car stereo, when phone call is received, it does not automatically activate the headset profile, which pipes the audio thru my stereo * Using the BB Dimension Today Plus theme, icon layout isn't saved if phone is restarted * had a few restarts while in music player.
Oh well, I guess I will wait for the released version. The only visual difference I see in the beta was the music player, which had fwd & rew buttons...didn't see much else. Didn't mess with the html mail or editing MS Office documents
