Hi... can someone please send me a link for a new 4.5 OS for my 8320, i did have the 4.5.0.18 on my previous 8320 and it worked great but I have just replaced my Blackberry and lost the file..... can some please help. Many thanks......
Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8320:
1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager installed. 2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded. 3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files esearch in motion\apploader 4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade. The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourgla** for up to 45 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device
Note: Preinstalled wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.
The "E" in "8320E" in the file name means that it is the English version only so that's why it's a slightly smaller download.
Here are my observations on the OS (Package 4.5.0.92) as compared to the package 4.5.0.52 (file "8320M_PBr4.5.0_rel75_PL2.7.0.66_A4.5.0.52_Orange_U.K.exe") I had installed on my 8320 immediately prior::
1) The apps 4.5.0.69 is actually meant for the BB Bold and websites that can identify your OS will identify your device as a Bold. Also, this OS version is before the Bold device was released for sale so some sites will not recognise your device at all. What this means is that you can have some problems with OTA installs so you might have to resort to downloading to desktop and then using DM.
2) The bold screen is sligthly taller than that of the 8320. So if you install apps on your 8320 that match this OS you might have to scroll down to see the last 10% of a screen. For example, you will see this mismatch with the opening screens of Yahoo Chat or Windows Live Messenger downloaded from the BB home page (mobile.blackberry.com).
3) The colour scheme, page formats, fonts and borders have been made closer to that of the iPhone / MAC platform. For example, in the address book you have more spacing between entries in the list view and entries can be alternately highlighted in a pastel blue. Same goes for colours in Yahoo and Windows im - softer, paler versions of the brand colours. The irritating thing is that this has been extended to fonts also - with font smoothing, softer colours on web pages and content not stored on your phone. While this might look cooler and better than the earlier clunky "hardware" , text based computer UI or "system" look of earlier OS versions this actually puts a strain on the eyes.
4) In the address book as well, the formatting and layout of entries has been spaced out with rounded (kerned) boxes drawn round related fields in entries e.g. all fileds related to work address are placed in a box formatting object. Very much like someone trying to dress up a drab docuument in a word processor and seems to be inspired by the iPhone / Mac platform.
5) The address book is also better integrated with Yahoo and Windows instant messengers and has some more fields for anniversaries and stuff. Yahoo and Windows messenger will offer to link your online chat contacts with entries in your BB address book.
6) Because of these presenting and formatting changes the ability for a human to quickly scroll through longs lists or pages and yet be able to quickly read or get a feel or what's there is diminished. It does make the device need more concentration to be applied when used in crowded or disturbed environments like a commuter train.
7) Apps version 4.5.0.52 and 4.5.0.69 both include a free version of DataViz's Documents To Go which weighs in at a hefty 2MB and allows you to edit MS Office Documents in your BB.
8) Video recording is also included.
9) Customisable (i.e. colour and a few graphics chocies) folder icons are back. Yay !
10) You can detach an attacment from your email and store it on your device. Not sure if apps version 4.5.0.52 also had it.
11) Media player is a bit better. Various audio equaliser presets are available.
12) HTML mail viewing is available. Yay. And it works well too, making a good choice between showing a whole HTML page with images and showing only the elements necessary to make the mail nicer to read. Of course, this means that if you had puurchase Empower's / Mobylo's "Empower HTML Viewer" for your BB that investment is wasted and this capability is now available within the BB and the new OS also specifically ignores any attempt by Empower to do render your mails - even if you specifically turn on empower.
13) A BIG disadvantage is all that this OS uses much more system resources even if you are not doing video recording. You will often find your phone thrashing memory or doing some optimisation or the hourgla** cursor will simply spin for MINUTES while your phone doesn't respond. So, if your phone is in suspend mode and the system resources are struggling you will have to wait for ages for your 8320 to respond to the button press to come out of suspend.
This is because the 8320 (and 8330) have 64MB of internal device memory whereas the Bold, for which this OS is intended, has 128 MB.
14) What would have been nice is the ability to locally store AND read pdf documenst such as with Cerience's RepliGo.
All in all, avoid this OS (Apps 4.5.0.69) on your 8320 unless, like I, you must have the latest and greatest or you simply want to get a feel of the Bold beforehand. If you do installt this OS, make sure that you first backup your device contents AND have a copy of the installer of your current OS handy .
regards

Chinmul, may I have some of what you are smoking? 4.5.0.69 is an OS for 8310 and 8320, NOT the Bold 9000 which runs 4.6.0.150 (latest beta). Please think before you post fiction!
