Have you ever loaded one of those "Beta" OS's onto your precious Blackberry only to have it go into a neverending cycle of Re-Boots, or random resets? Well if you follow these simple steps, you too can restore that Lifesaving device back to its out-of-the-box condition. First, let's start off with the basic requirements needed to pull this off.
1. You need to be running a recent version of Windows(preferably XP, or Vista).
2. You need to have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed on your computer. You can find a version that will work with these steps here.
3. You need to have the version of the OS that you want to install/restore to your berry installed onto your computer.
4. Next we need to make sure that your device is NOT connected to your computer and open the Application Loader in Desktop Manager. If you have DM 4.5 skip to step 5, if not, locate and open the App Loader by going to Program Files>Common Files>Research in Motion>Apploader. Double click the "Loader" app and then lick "Next" and procede to the next step.
5. Remove the battery from your device and plug the device into your computer by using the USB cable provided with your phone.
6. Now the tricky part. Where it says "Com1", we want it to say "USB-PIN : UNKNOWN", as soon as you see it switch over, you can select "Next" immediately!! This step can be done with the battery still installed, but by taking the battery out, it gives you more time to select the device and move on to the next step. If you don't get it to work, go back to step 4 and try again.
7. Now that you have taken the device out of the constant reboot cycle, you are pretty much home free. After choosing all the Apps you want installed back to your device, but before selecting "Next", you need to reinsert the battery.
8. Select "Next" and review the options that you have selected , and then select "Finish".
9. Sit back and relax as you watch your device restore back to "Out of the Box" condition.
DISCLAIMER: This process WILL NOT restore ANY of your third party applications that you had installed on your device. Nor will it restore your Address Book, or any other Settings, and Options you had selected on your device. Hopefully you have done a Back-Up of your device lately and will be able to restore your personal data and info such as the Address Book, etc., etc. After the device has Initialized and is back up and running, you can go to the "Restore" option on the Desktop Manager and from the file drop down menu select "Open" and select the most recent Back-Up, or Auto Back-Up, and select what you want to be reinstalled back to your device. I hope this helps any of you guys that have been having problems with your Berry, and this process can also be done to completely "Wipe" a perfectly working Berry as well. If you have any questions or wish to Add anything that I might have missed, feel free to post them here. Thanks and have a Berry Good Day!!
I have tried this method with following software version:
Windows Vista computer Blackberry pearl 8100 Desktop Manager - version 4.2.2 Device software - ver 4.2.1
When I click NEXT when i see "USB-PIN : UNKNOWN", no applications are listed in the panel :(
When I insert my battery at this stage, it gives a 507 error with "a circle, square and triangle inside a dialog box enclosed in a circle" symbol. This signifies that there is no OS in the device.
i have the very same problem like person above me. now trying to load new os, but have very bad feeling, that something went terribly wrong during "wipe out"ing the device...
I don't know if anyone reads this but I seriously need help! My BB is a serious loop of error app 200 and I've tried everything but nothing works. The problem seems to be that my computer can't detect when the device is connected to my PC... I really need help!! Please! :(
